Average Pace: 4:51 min per km
Rank:
67th (Overall Half Marathon) ;

21st (M30-39)

Started at Sentosa Island, run around the Island for first 9km before return to Singapore Island. A bit hilly compare with previous year's route.

Completed my first 10km with 48 min++, I am worried that sub 1:45 might not abe to achieve, compare with last year's 47 min for 10km.

I try to ahead the 1:45 Pacer group from starting, when reached the u-turn at about 11km on Telok Blangah Road, they were about 200 meter behind of me. Keep my pace and run along Ayer Rajah Expressway, East Coast Expressway, only few runners within my vision and most of us run with smillar pace, hard to overtook each other.

Start to overtook few runners when reached the flyover at 17.8km, across Marina Bay, and run downhill to Republic Blvd towards Singapore Flyer side and turn right to Raffles Ave, 2 km to go, Saw a lot of 10km runners in reverse direction, they all just stsrted 20 min ago. Pass by Esplanade and turn left into Esplanade Drive, many photographer there but can't see Tey yet.

Turn in to Fullerton Road, High Street and St. Andrews Road, a timing mat is place about 100 m away from the finishing arc, saw Tey on the right.

he manage snap my first pix when I reached last 75 m

wave with him

and continue my run, saw digital timer show 1;42:50, turn on turbo for last 75 m and crossed finishing line with 1'43:10....... 17 sec faster than lasy year timing.

Good weather before the race, no rain on Saturday night, a bit humid at starting. Strong wind when I reached 12km mark, felt cold. But the wind was blowing reverse direction with me, make me feel hard to move when I run downhill. Heavy rain started when I reached 14km, run the remaining 7km under heavy downpour.

When reached the Queensbay roundabout and running towards finishing line, saw Jia Wei was wearing rain coat, holding umberlla to snap my photo, deeply appreciated him. Can't see other official photograher along the last few hundred meter, and also no timer displays on the finishing arc.

Flag off for Team Relay category at 7:40am

Rainy day in the early morning, first run is easy, however thery are a lot fast runner this year, I totally can't cat up with the fast pack runners, feel lonely while run alone at the first 3 km, untill catch up with some Long Distance runner. Pia back with 50:24, 50 sec slower than last year.

2nd lap of 1st run

going to finishing of 1st run

Sun start to wake up at 9:30am, learn from last year lesson, I plan not to run with running vest, but running Tee instead, to avoid become BBQ ......

Derek is back, get the timing chip from him...

Started my second run started about 10:40 am, weather getting hot but still better than last year, but my weakness of running in hot weather make me run with slow pace for the 10km lap. Crossing finishing with 53:34, slightly better than 2009.

Burnt face after 2nd run....

Official finishing time 3'53:00, 45 sec faster than last year, but ranking drop again from 5th (2009) to 6th this year, no more cash prize.....

Race Report: Hat Yai Nature Run 2010

Location: Prince of Songkla University , Hat Yai, Thailand
Date/Time: 8th August 2010
Category: Half Marathon (M35-39)
Bib: 35 024
Distance: 20.72 km (by Garmin FR405)
Timing: 1'47:08
Average Pace: 5:10 min per km
Rank: Over 10 in M35-39, about 105 overall

My first race in Thailand. As the name "Nature Run", we really run in the nature enviroment from 6 km to 15 km, surrounding by rubber estate and the killing hilly road.

Started run up to the hill from 6 km at 35 m above sea level to 7.8 km at 115 m above sea level, then all the way down hill to the U-turn point at at 10.35 km with 25 m above sea level, run reverse route back again, the second uphill was really killing, run with almost 8:00 ++ min pace, and almost give up.

Drink stations every 2 km, served water, without isotonic drink, traffic control very well, Thai driver are very patient while waiting for runners across the road, not like what happend during SCKLM, many local driver always horn while we run across the road.

After U-turn from 10.35 km and run up to the hill, I estimate I shall able to finished the race with 1:48, after turn out from the "nature route" and run all the way back, overtook some 10km runners, turn in to the Prince of Songkla University, run a bit uphill until the roundabout, turn left and towards finishing line, as my estimation, finished with 1'47:08.

Many food and drink at the finishing, got porridge, koay teow goreng, bihun goreng, soya bean, leong fun, Thailand style 油条, watermelon. Eat a lot as recovery meal. Hat Yai Nature Run, really a good event, I'll run again in 2011.....

Timing: 1'40:11

Rank: 26th

My first ever race in the town/state (Muar, Johor) where I born and grown...

Don't know why the organizer change the starting time from 5:30am Malaysia time to 5:30am Thailand time, don't know and also don't want to know.

Rain before and during strating of the race but not heavy, nice and cool weather, fresh air after rain in the early morning.

From Tanjung Emas run across Sg Muar towards Melaka direction and U-turn back to Tanjung Emas again, totally a new route for me, and also for all Muar runners, I think.

All the way flat, except crossing Sultan Ismail bridge across Sg Muar. Organizer try to created some "man made" hilly route for runners, that is crossing two pedestrian bridge at about 8.8km and 13.7km.

Few drink staions along the 21km route, organizer just prepare plan water for runners, but lucky Camel Marathon Club provided 100 Plus isotnics drink for runners, thanks a lot to Mr Yew and his gang (Camel Marathon Club), you all really Pro Runners, know what runners need during race ....

Thanks to Terrence to pace with me from 7km onwards, and force me run faster, else I think I'll not able to completed with sub-5 min pace....

No pia photo during this race, only this photo with finishing medal snap by Ben Swee.

and nice to meet you, Ben...

Nice route, nice weather, and beautiful scenery around Taiping Lake Garden route for the first 3 to 4 km......

Slightly hilly from 4.6km to 5.3km route, 2 drink station, at about 5.7km and 13km, second drink station is a bit far from first drink station, prefer 5km one drink station. Distance marker are clear along the route.

The bad experience during this event is started late, just because of waiting for some VVIP to flag off the race.
