Race Report: Shah Alam adidas King of The Road 2009

Location: Stadium Shah Alam, Shah Alam, Selangor
Date/Time: 2nd August 2009 @ 6:30am
Category: A - Men's Open
Bib: A846
Distance: 21.81km (by Garmin FR405)
Timing: 1:58:10
Average Pace: 5:25 min per km
Position: -

Started at Stadium Shah Alam, slightly different with last year route, but already know that this will be a tough race for me.

From the starting point, run all the way uphill for about 1.3km, still got energy to pia at that moment, but following by another uphill at 5km to 6 km was really killing me and cause I not manage to complete first 6km within 30 minute, I know I'll suffer at the end. Uphill and down hill for most of the route, I try to speed up my pace whenever during downhill route, completed 11.5km within first hour.

Meet 11km runners at Kayangan roundabout at 19.5km.

The finishing point located inside Stadium Shah Alam track, after turn in to Stadium Shah Alam main entrance from Persiaran Sukan, run thru the underpass entrance and run into the track, crossing the finishing line with 1:58:10, actual distance clock by my Garmin Forerunner 405 show 21.81km........

Completed the race with sub-2, as per expected, dare not aim for personal best, because I just did my Alor Setar half marathon two days before, but end up with Personal Worst pace at 5:25 min per km for this year race, 5 sec slower than ASJC half marathon two days ago....

5 refreshment stations along 3.8km, 9.6km, 13km, 16.5km and 19km, all served water and isotonics drink, great to see that adidas have improve the refreshment station after been complaint by runner on last year event. 2 sponging station at 7km and 14km as well.

Meet Yin just after reached the finishing point

Meet Tey outside the stadium, thanks for snap this photo as a proof that I m in KOTR 2009

Race Report: Seremban Half Marathon 2009

Location: Padang MPS, Seremban
Date/Time: 12th July 2009 @ 6:45am
Category: B - Men Senior (19 yrs to 40 yrs)
Bib: B 14
Distance: 20.52 km (by Garmin FR405)
Timing: 1:48:13
Average Pace: 5:16 min per km
Position: 44th

Good weather, started punctual and everything smooth, but a bit mistake did by the road marshal at about 1.5km route, all the leading runner were run to the wrong route at the traffic light junction in between Jalan Zaaba and turn left to Jalan Dato Muda Linggi, instead of run straight to Persiaran Bidara 2, I was follow the group and turn in to Jalan Dato Muda Linggi, but after 20meter, we saw a lot of runners run back from opposite direction and shouted, we know that we've lead to Holland by that stupid road marshal and immediately u-turn and run to Persiaran Bidara 2. Those leading Kenya runner potong sayur very fast from behind and run towards the correct direction....

When reached the 3km mark, start to run at the rolling hill route at the new housing area, at that moment I can felt my legs are not listen to my command, I know that I'll be suffer for the remaining route.

Try to maintain my average 5 min per km pace until 10km only, then completed the first 12km by 61min, worse than SCKLM, ai..... Another rolling hill route was at 12.7km, fron Jalan Jelebu to a new housing area.....

3 water station at 5km, 10km, 16.5km and 2 sponging station at 7km and 14km distance.

I didn't eat my power gel when reached 10km water station, plan to reserved it for last 6km route, when reached 14.5km, I took out my gel and looking for the water station, but too bad I can't find the 3rd water station until 16km route, I worry that there is no more 3rd water station or maybe will share after 17km with those 10km runners, I am bit regret now that I didn't eat at 10km water station... after run for another 500meter and I saw the water station.... water plus power gel to boost up my energy for last 4.5km.

Meet the 10km runners after 18km route, and another rolling hill route run towards Seremban Lake Garden, when reached Seremban Lake Garden, my stop watch shown 1:42++, I know I am slow liao, try to speed up my pace when run downhill towards Jalan Yam Tuan, saw Seremban Parade.... 1:46++... pia again and run in to Padang MPS, run to lane B, get the position tag, 44th with 1:48:13..... actually distance by my Garmin Forerunner 405 shown 25.52km, average pace 5:16min per km, my personal worst pace for half marathon race in 2009.....

The Half Marathon route for Seremban Half Marathon 2009

Race Report: Ipoh International Run 2009

Location: Stadium Perak, Ipoh
Date/Time: 5th July 2009 @ 7.23 am (Started late)
Category: Half Marathon (Men)
Bib: A041
Distance: 19.97km (by Garmin FR405)
Timing: 1:39:55
Average Pace: 5:00 min per km
Position: 86th

Wake up at 4.30am, after shower and breakfast, suddenly heavy rain fall at 5am. When reached Stadium Perak, rain still non-stop and we have to run from car park to the reporting area at Jabatan Belia & Sukan. All runner (21km and 10km) were squeeze under the shade area but some still doing slow run under the rain, I just run few round to keep my body warm.

All runners been release from reporting area to the starting line about 7:00am, but the State AAA officer not allow to start the race due to heavy rain, and all runner were stand under heavy rain for about 30min, really frustrated, my body was cold and wet, a lot of runners keep on shouting and TNS, KNN, PNB sounds were non-stop. Flag off by politician on 7.23am and we start run like the Beach run, run in wet.

Half marathon and 10km run started at the same time, don't know what type of race, make the first 1 km crowded like hell, have to run on the road divider or even run to the opposite side of road in order to pia......

Reached the seperate junction for 21km and 10km route at Jalan Hospital, just 1.8km from starting line. 21km runner run into Jalan Greentown, beside Greentown Mall, I found the road become very empty, I know that the crowded before reached this junction was caused by 10km runner, really don't understand why 21km and 10km start together. This also caused few fast10km runner run into 21km route. I meet three 10km runner along 21km route, 1st one was run reverse back at about 5km distance at Jalan Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, after Casurina Hotel, run extra 3 km and u-turn back, end up with run extra 6km if he run back to the 10km route, The most amkan should be another two 10km runner who I meet at about 10km distance, I don't know how's their feeling, only realise they are in the wrong route after run for 10km, still cannot find the finishing point.

4 water station at 5km, 10km, 15km and 19km, all serve water, without isotonic drink. And 3 sponge station for this race.

The rain was slow after I run for 6km and fully stop at my 10km distance, follow by sunshine, really run from cold and raining to hot.

The route are slightly different compare with 2008 route, after run from Jalan Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and turn to Jalan Raja Musa Mahadi at Gunung Rapat area, compare with run along whole Jalan Raja Musa Mahadi untill Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah like last year, this year route was change and we need to run toDesa Perwira, Taman Ampang, Kampung Ampang Baru and then go to Jalan Raja Musa Mahadi again. A slightly hilly road at this area, but not a big deal for me.

From starting untill 10km, I try my best to maintain my average pace with sub-5 min per km, and I manage to finished first 10km with 48 min 31.27 sec, I aim to complete my first 12km with sub-60 min and I did it again with 58 min 38.31 sec, almost 2 min faster than my speed during SCKLM last week. Follow by 15km, 17km and 18km, I maintain with average sub-5 min per km pace.

Distance marker along the road are not that accurate compare with my GPS, found about 400m shorter than my GPS at about 8km, follow by about 1km shorter at 17km, which I reached that distance at about 1:19:00, impossible for me !

Another new route compare with last year is instead if turn into Jalan Kg Simee from Jalan Tasek, we are run futher and turn into Persiaran Pearl and run to roundabout at Jalan Kg Simee. When reached roundabout in front of Stadium, turn into Jalan Lau Pak Khuan for 100m and u-turn back, run to Jalan Kompleks Sukan and turn in to Stadium, run about 400m from the entrance to the finishing line, my timing 1:39:55, actual distance clock by my Garmin Forerunner 405 is 19.97km. Position 86.

The half marathon route for Ipoh International Run 2009

Race Report: Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009

Location: Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur
Date/Time: 28th June 2009 @ 6.15 am
Category: Half Marathon (Men)
Bib: 0878
Distance: 21.40 km (by Garmin FR405)
Timing: 1:50:01 (gun time)
Average Pace: 5:08 min per km

I am worry before the race, very tension due to my left leg injured after Malakoff 26 km Penang 3 weeks ago. I was stop running on Tuesday and rest for 4 days before the race.

Reached Dataran Merdeka about 5.40am, after streching and try to run for warming up, I feel that my left leg pain was reduce to minimun, this give more confidence to me for today race. After warming up and looking for toilet, I saw a lot of runner already at the starting line, try to squeeze into the crowed but not manage to go to the front, about 30 m behind.
Flag off about 6.12 am, a bit slow at the starting, block by front runner. I still manage to maintain sub-5 min pace for the first 2 km. Start to speed up after turn in to Jalan Kinabalu. The road from Jalan Maharajalela and Jalan Loke Yew is not so tough for me, even though the is abit up down hill, maybe still early.

I try to maintain my sub-5 min pace from starting until 11km, after pass by Hang Tuah monorail station. I hope to maintain this pace and run 12 km within 1 hour, but mission failed and end up with 28 sec over.
After Jalan Dewan Bahasa and uphill to the flyover to Jalan Istana, saw the crowd of 10 km runner after 12.5km, the road become very congested and running zig-zag become the only way for me to overtook them. I've skip the water station at 14km, not able "access" to get the water.

The rolling hill road along Jalan Damansara to Lebuhraya Mahameru is abit tough, not able to speed up my pace even though during downhill. When run into the flyover to Jalan Salahhudin, the path was not wide, become more congested before downhill road to Bank Negara. After came out from Jalan Salahhudin and cross Bank Negara roundabout, at distance 19.3km and my timing is 1:39++, I know that mission for 1:44:59 was failed.

Turn in to Jalan Raja Laut and make u-turn at Jalan Semarang, beside Pertama Complex and turn into Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the last water station at Jalan Semarang is only for 21km runner, full marathon and 10km runner need to u-turn at Jalan Sultan Ismail.
After turn in to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, my GPS show 20.3 km, try to speed up my pace run towards Dataran Merdeka diirection, after crossing traffic light at Jalan Tun Perak, run to Jalan Raja at Dataran Merdeka, saw the timer at finishing line show 1:49++...... Speed up with my best pace and cross the finishing line with 1:50:01.........
